1MW/1.8MWH village solar energy system for the King of Congo

Jan 06, 2026

We are honored to announce a landmark partnership, initiated under the visionary leadership of His Majesty in the Democratic Republic of Congo, to bring sustainable and reliable electricity to the community of Bunkeya Village. This transformative project will deploy a comprehensive 1MW Solar PV Array integrated with a 1.8MWh Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), designed to meet the daily energy needs of approximately 2,500 households currently without access to the national grid. This initiative represents a profound commitment to improving living standards, fostering economic development, and empowering an entire community through the gift of modern, clean energy.

I. Project Vision & The Need for a Tailored Solution

Bunkeya Village, like many remote communities, has historically lacked access to a stable central power supply. This project, championed by local leadership, seeks to bridge this critical infrastructure gap not with temporary measures, but with a sustainable, long-term solution. The primary goal is to establish a self-sufficient microgrid that provides 24/7 power, enabling educational opportunities after dark, supporting local healthcare services, stimulating small businesses, and enhancing overall quality of life. Our solution was selected for its proven ability to deliver exactly this outcome in challenging environments.

II. System Design Philosophy: Reliability, Efficiency, and Community Integration

Our engineering approach prioritizes resilience, cost-effectiveness over the system's lifespan, and seamless integration into the village landscape. The design is based on extensive preliminary analysis, including a detailed review of site videos and geographic data, ensuring every component is optimally specified.

1.Optimized Solar Generation Site:
The chosen location for the solar array offers ample, unobstructed space, allowing for a layout that maximizes solar exposure throughout the year. Taking a cue from our successful Chad TINE project, we will strategically position the installation as close as possible to key community hubs, such as the local school. This not only minimizes transmission losses but also symbolizes the project's core mission: powering the future through education. The modular design allows for future expansion should the village's needs grow.

2.Intelligent Energy Storage & Distribution:
At the heart of the system is a robust 1.8MWh Lithium-Ion Battery bank. This storage capacity is meticulously calculated to store excess solar energy generated during the day and release it during evening peak hours and periods of low sunlight, ensuring a stable and continuous power supply. Preliminary analysis of the village's trapezoidal layout, spanning approximately 3.12 km from the power station to the farthest home, indicates that a low-voltage direct distribution network is a technically viable and economically advantageous option, potentially eliminating the need for costly step-up transformers. The final distribution layout, including optimal cable routing and connection points, will be finalized in close collaboration with local engineers on the ground. This partnership ensures the design respects local topography, infrastructure, and community patterns.

3.Unwavering Backup with Dual Diesel Generators:
To guarantee absolute power reliability during extended periods of inclement weather or for critical load support, the system incorporates two 500KW diesel generators. These units will operate in a hybrid configuration, automatically engaging to "charge" the battery bank or directly support the load when needed. This multi-layered backup strategy ensures the village never faces a blackout, providing peace of mind and unwavering energy security.

III. Beyond Products: A Full-Scope "Turnkey" Partnership

We understand that delivering a project of this magnitude is about more than just shipping equipment. It is about total project success. Therefore, our commitment extends far beyond being a supplier:

  • Expert On-Site Installation & Supervision: Our seasoned project engineers and technicians will be deployed to Bunkeya to oversee the entire installation process. We bring hands-on experience from executing large-scale, complex projects and possess the foresight to anticipate and mitigate common on-site challenges.
  • Comprehensive Supply Chain Management: We provide all necessary components, accessories, and materials, from the major solar panels and battery racks down to the specific cables and connectors required for a durable installation. This single-point accountability ensures quality control and prevents project delays.
  • From Factory Visit to Contract Signing: The foundation of this project was strengthened when the Royal Delegation visited our TANFON manufacturing facilities. This firsthand inspection of our production capabilities, quality controls, and technical expertise led directly to the signing of the formal agreement, building mutual confidence.
  • Swift Project Mobilization: Upon receipt of the initial deposit, we immediately activated our logistics and planning teams to arrange shipment of the solar panels and schedule the advance site survey, demonstrating our commitment to a timely project launch.

IV. A Model for the Future

The Bunkeya Village project stands as a powerful model for rural electrification across the region. It demonstrates how visionary leadership, combined with robust and appropriately scaled technology, can create lasting change. We are deeply privileged to contribute our expertise to this noble endeavor.
