500kW Off-Grid Solar Energy Storage System for Farm in Papua New Guinea

May 27, 2026

In the remote area of Morehead, Papua New Guinea, Tanfon engineers are installing a 500kW Tanfon solar power system for a local farm to solve its long-term electricity shortage problem.

This off-grid solar energy system provides an independent and reliable power supply for the farm, ensuring essential operations such as irrigation, lighting, and electric fencing can run continuously.

The project adopts a 500kW hybrid inverter system combined with a 430kWh lithium battery energy storage system and a 211kW solar panel array.

Before the installation began, Tanfon engineers conducted detailed on-site inspections and provided technical training and guidance for the local team.

To maximize the use of Papua New Guinea’s abundant sunlight resources, a total of 352 pieces of 600W solar panels were installed using an optimized ground-mounted structure.

Before the solar system was installed, the farm relied entirely on a 65kVA diesel generator for electricity supply.

Although the generator could provide basic power support, fuel consumption costs were extremely high, creating a significant financial burden for daily farm operations.

After carefully analyzing the farm’s daily electricity consumption and operating requirements, Tanfon engineers designed a customized off-grid solar energy storage solution to reduce the customer’s dependence on diesel fuel while ensuring a stable 24-hour power supply.

The outdoor energy storage cabinet is equipped with high-performance lithium batteries specially designed for long cycle life and high-temperature environments.

With stable charging and discharging performance, the integrated battery storage system is highly suitable for continuous agricultural operations in remote tropical regions.

During the installation process, Tanfon engineers completed equipment installation, solar panel mounting, inverter commissioning, and on-site system testing.

To improve overall power generation efficiency and simplify future maintenance work, the solar panels were installed using an optimized ground-mounted design.

The engineering team also provided training for local operators on system operation, safety procedures, and daily monitoring.
